Solo: Venturing Alone in the Northern Wilds
The Photographs
by Dick Anderson
Hello friend,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to this page of my website. The photos you see here were taken over a twelve-year period during which I canoed through the remote waters of Minnesota, Canada and Alaska, each time spending two or more weeks alone in the wild. I embarked on these journeys in my late fifties and concluded them just shy of my seventieth birthday. Nearly a decade later, I wrote the memoir Solo: Venturing Alone in the Northern Wilds, with the promise of a large-format photo book to follow.
The places depicted in Solo—The Photographs represent some of North America’s most treasured, and endangered, locations. The meditations accompanying these photos are my attempt to convey how it feels to move through and be a part of these environs.
You are welcome to contact me at [email protected] with any questions or comments, or if you wish to obtain a hard copy of the book.
Meanwhile, please enjoy this web version of Solo: Venturing Alone in the Northern Wilds—The Photographs.
I highly recommend you view this book in the largest format possible.
